Lisette Model
introduction of lisette models reflection work in new York
Model created a large serious of reflection photographs taken on 5th avenue in new York. She mainly took photos of reflection of buildings with the reflection being a shop window most of the time a clothes shop with manikins. it also looked like in each of these serious of photos she has captured a part of new York weather it was the tall buildings or the busy streets as well as the many shops though out 5th avenue. it kind of like being some one who is looking in through a window and seeing models work. in my mind some of her photographs almost like they have been photoshopped for example the one of the face where it almost looks as if it has been blended to give a reflected look to the photograph. but with some of her other work on 5th avenue where the seems to be a person doing some thing which model has seen to stand out from everything else or has chosen some one to pose in a particular way. |
compression of Models work with freidlander
It seems that quite often the way that Model photographs of reflection they would incorporate either a model in a shop window with maybe a building in the background as being the reflection. another thing she tended to take images of people again in reflection with manikins in windows or even reflections in water.
comparing to what the other artist did lee friedlander who more concentrated on people in reflections of other people or other reflective objects. lisette choose to take photographs of builds in reflection of shop windows with manikins in them as well as people being reflected with people. Comparing with friedlander work where she had just people in reflection of coffee shops or shop windows or even car wing mirrors. The way in which model choose to photograph her subjects weather is was the reflection of buildings in clothes shops or the reflection of a persons face with a busy high street. comparing to freidlanders work where in some the person looks as if they have been chosen to stand there and in others where the person.

Lee Freidlander
Lee Freidlander was an american
photographer and artist. In the 1960s and 70s Friedlander evolved an influential and often imitated visual language of urban "social landscape,". Had always dreamed of being a photographer and once he started he realised how fun photography was as an art and a hobby. Freidlander created these group of images with the idea of reflection and in compassion to Lisette Model is very similar but he used different materials to create his which tended to be wing mirrors on cars and i think gives each of these photos a very good effect. Also influenced by what other artist have done and how he could make his view of it more interesting and stand out from everything else. My opinion of his work is that i think in is very creative in the way that he as thought out side the box comparing to lisette model who mainly used windows for her work when he used other sources of reflection such as wing site mirrors and i also like how he has used the reflection in some of his shop window shots where comparing to model he has thought about how he can use the reflection to his advantage. |
response to lee freidlander and Lisette Model reflection work
evaluation of reflection photo response
What heavily influenced my photos above was the to photographers lee friedlander and Lisette Model and how in some of there images they have used a window of a building to reflect either a person or another building and what i have done is similar but i decided to also use the reflection of water to create some interesting photographs. What is worth remembering about these photographs is that although some have have come out in a bad way wether the surface of the object i have used has been distorted by something weather it was a ripple in water or the reflection on a car bonnet is not good enough to reflect what i won't. How these images compare with friedlanger and lisettes work is that I have tried to incorporate some of there methods in reflection such as using a reflection of a window or a car window to create my photos for example the top right is of a window where I have reflected a sculpture to create the image. What I think is effective about these photographs is that each ones differences in reflection helps make it a good photograph. A particular thing i think is effective about some of these photographs are the ones I used water to reflect in the way that the ripples of the water have changed how the reflection work and that in some the wind has costed the water to distort so much that it has made the object very hard to figure out what it may be.
